2021 Career Goals

Make a Skills List

First thing you want to do is to create a list of your best skills. Then make a list of your skills that need some improvement. In the new year you should be looking to make the most out of your best skills and improve the ones that need work. You could make a goal to move at least 2 of your “need improvement” skills to your best skills list.

Never Stop Learning

If you are in an industry that requires constant knowledge updating, and you have been slacking, making it a goal to learn something new about your industry every day. There are tons of industry newsletters and publications that you can read each morning during your cup of coffee.

Gain Experience

If you are looking to make a career change in the new year, then you are going to need some experience. Volunteering is a great way to keep your resume fresh with experience that you can show prospective employers. Checkout Volunteer Victoria for plenty of different types of work.

Go Back to School

It’s never too late to go back to school and learn a new skill. UViC offers tons of adult learning programs that you can do at night. They are affordable and may just be what you need to land that new job in 2021. It’s a lot easier to stick to classes than trying to learn something on your own. You also have the benefit of networking as well.

So get out there and make 2021 your year!
